Are you teaching your kiddos about bats this fall? Bats are always a favorite theme in kindergarten. I usually teach about bats and spiders during the month of October when the kiddos are thinking about Halloween and all things fall. Here are a few of the activities that my kiddos complete while we are learning about bats. These activities are FREE in my TPT shop if you would like to use them in your own classroom.

Bat Caves-We use black cups and popsicle sticks to create these upside down bats in caves!

Bat Books-This emergent reader about bats is simple for new readers!

Bat Song-We sing this song to learn about bats! Kindergarten students love to sing.

Batty Labeling-We label the parts of a bat.

I try to incorporate writing into my science subjects. We write about what "drives us batty."

October Kindergarten Math Notebook (Fall Themed Math For Kindergarten)

A few years ago, my elementary school adopted a new math series (again!). After using the math series for a few weeks, I decided that I wasn't a fan. It wasn't very kindergarten friendly, with pages to rip out and not to mention it had a very boring and bland layout. Although I was still required to use the math series, I decided that I needed something to supplement the instruction to give my kinders a little more excitement. They needed a little more hands on, and a little more simple and kindergarten friendly. With this in mind, I created a series of math notebooks for each month of Kindergarten. These math notebooks make the perfect supplement, and they provide the kiddos with hands-on activities which they love! Each math notebook has one activity for each day of the month. These activities could be used for morning work, guided math, or even math homework for the littles. The activities only take a few minutes, which is perfect for kinders with a small attention span. Here are a few of the activities in my October Math Notebook. If you like this set, you may also like all of the other months. I have them in a bundle! The activities get a little more difficult as the school year continues, in order to keep the kiddos engaged.

Kindergarten students need a lot of simple, predictable, repetitive text, in order to develop those beginning reading skills. They need to develop tracking print, using picture clues, return sweep, sight word awareness, and so much more. A few years ago I started creating these sets of simple sentences to give my kinder kiddos the practice they need. I have a set for each month, including October. This October set includes spiders, pumpkins, bats, and all things FALL! We will use these for morning work, whole group reading, and small reading groups. These could be bound together to create a book or folder and placed into student book boxes for a future familiar read. I included a version with tracking dots, and a set without. You choose!

Fall Pocket Chart Center For Kindergarten or First Grade

Fall is just one short week away! Before we know it the leaves will be changing, the air will be cool and crisp, and the houses (and classrooms) will be decorated with pumpkins and all things Fall! Teachers will also begin incorporating Fall into their lesson plans.

One way to do this is by using a pocket chart. Most kindergarten classrooms have a pocket chart center. Pocket charts are perfect for hands-on learning! They can be easily changed throughout the school year to keep the kids engaged with new activities. This set of Fall Simple Sentences are perfect for the Pocket Chart Center in the month of October. The kids build fall related sentences including the topics of Fall, Halloween, Pumpkins, and more! This center teaches sight words, sentence structure, tracking print, word spacing, using picture clues, and more! The kiddos look at the provided printable, and then build the pocket chart sentences to match. After the sentences have been put together, you can display the pocket chart for the kiddos to use as a reference in their writing! This set comes with 10 different Fall themes!
