Number Word Poems for Shared Reading

Do you teach number words in your classroom? Number words are one of those skills that most kindergarten or first grade teachers teach at some point in the school year. We learn to read them, write them, and spell them. I love to use poetry in my classroom, and I decided to create some poems that focus on number words. We will use this number word poetry notebook during our study of number words. I will print and bind the poetry notebooks, and then we will pull them out each day to learn a new number word. Each poem focuses on a different number word (1-10). Students can read the poem, highlight the number words, color the pictures, and then store them in their book boxes for a future familiar reading resource. If you would like to use these poems in your classroom, grab this set in my TPT shop. It is a digital download, which makes it easy to print and use! I hope your kiddos love the poems.

Color Words Simple Sentences Reading Practice for New Readers

Are color words part of your kindergarten curriculum? We teach color words here in Missouri in Kindergarten! This includes reading them, spelling them, and writing them. One way that I teach color words is in context using simple sentences. We use these color word simple sentences during our guided reading groups, and during whole group reading time. They are simple and predictable which is perfect for new readers. After we read the sentences, highlight the color words, and then color the pictures the correct color, we place these in our reading folders to pull out later for a familiar read. I created this set with and without tracking dots. Some kiddos still need tracking dots, and some are ready to track print without them. If you would like to use these color word simple sentences, you can find them in my tpt shop here!
