10 Spring Pocket Charts (Simple Predictable Sentences) for Kindergarten or First Grade

Do your kids love using the pocket chart? Most kindergarten students love using anything pocket chart related, and that is why it is the perfect learning center activity to keep all year long. Simply change the pocket chart set weekly, and you are good to go. The activity pictured is a Spring Themed Pocket Chart Center Set. The students simply order the predictable sentences in the pocket chart. This helps the student practice sentence structure, sight words, punctuation, capital letters, left to right directionality, and more. They simply look at the provided printable, and copy it in the pocket chart by building the sentences using the provided cards.

I tried to incorporate some science topics into this Spring Sentences Pocket Chart Set. These include the life cycle of a plant, frog, and butterfly.

Ocean Animal Themed Sight Word Poems

Young students love to learn about the ocean and ocean animals! I love to teach about the ocean, and that includes incorporating the ocean into reading. I created this set of Ocean Animal Sight Word Poems to use during shared reading. I will create a poetry notebook for each student to use during our ocean animal study. I will also write the poems on chart paper, or display them using our projector. We will read the poems, and then highlight the sight words that we are learning. I will use these poems alongside my Ocean Animals Mega Unit.

I created this set in 2 different levels, so that it can be used with different levels of readers. The basic poems are very predictable for new readers. The second set of poems are more complex, but still focus on sight words. Both sets cover the same ocean animals. You are welcome to use these poems in your classroom. You can write them on chart paper, or you can get the printable version here.

March Simple Sentences for Kindergarten

Kindergarten students need a lot of simple, predictable, repetitive text, in order to develop those beginning reading skills. They need to develop tracking print, using picture clues, return sweep, sight word awareness, and so much more. A few years ago I started creating these sets of simple sentences to give my kinder kiddos the practice they need. I have a set for each month, including March! The topics of the March simple sentences include kites, Spring, March, Green Eggs and Ham, St. Patrick's Day, and more!

Students read the predictable sentences using the picture clues. Students can then highlight the sight words (of your choice) and fill in the last sentence to match the other predictable sentences. They also color if time allows. You can bind these together to create a book of simple sentences. These are perfect to pull out during your "read to self" time.

Simple Math Center Idea for Kindergarten (Addition Clip and Solve)

I am constantly looking for new center ideas for Kindergarten! Center time is a time for the students to explore and play independently, but also participate in hands-on activities that are actually teaching them something. I usually have a variety of centers going on in the classroom during guided reading time. These centers include reading and math, and I usually try to incorporate skills that we are currently learning in the classroom.

This set of addition solve and clip cards are simple to prep, and easy for the kiddos to complete independently. The kiddos solve the addition problems on each card using manipulatives and a ten frame, and then place a clip on each addition problem with the correct answer. Simple as that!

Weather Pop Up Cards (Read or Write About Weather!)

Are you looking for an engaging way to teach your kiddos about weather? Check out my weather pop-up cards! They are easy to prep, and your kiddos will love to create them. Make sure you print them on tag-board so that the pop-up pieces will stand up!

Your kids will love learning about the weather with these pop-up cards! I created this set of 10 different pop-up cards that cover the topics of tornadoes, blizzards, clouds, rain, snow, fog, floods, hurricanes, and more! The cards come in two different designs. One design provides writing lines for your kids to write their own weather related information. The other design has a reading passage that provides your kids information about the weather topic. I have provided the reading passage in two different levels. One for younger readers, and one for older readers. Each card has a pop-up feature that your kids will incorporate into their card. They will love to show what they know about weather by decorating their pop-up cards!
